According to Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, the “Rehabilitation 2030 Agenda” has been implemented by the federal government in an effort to increase Nigerians’ access to rehabilitation services.
Yesterday, in Abuja, he made this statement during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria to discuss the implementation of the Rehabilitation 2030 Agenda, which was recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
He elaborated that the Rehabilitation 2030 Agenda intended for all citizens to have the means to fulfil their rehabilitation requirements, further stating, “A component of the agreement is the strategy to incorporate rehabilitation into universal health coverage.”
The minister observed that the “Japa” syndrome had become a concerning trend in the health sector, specifically in the field of physiotherapy, where qualified Nigerians were continually enticed to work abroad.
According to Prof Rufai Yusuf Ahmad, the Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria, the data at hand indicates that rehabilitation services have the potential to benefit 2.41 billion individuals worldwide.
According to him, this indicated that rehabilitation was necessary at some stage during the illness or injury of at least one in every three individuals worldwide.
