The All Progressives Congress (APC) is optimistic about winning Rivers and Delta states in the upcoming 2027 elections, building on their recent achievements in Edo State.
Tony Okocha, head of the APC’s Caretaker Committee in Rivers, shared this outlook while speaking to the media in Port Harcourt.
Okocha cautioned potential candidates for the local council elections set for October 5, 2024, advising them against squandering resources.
He highlighted a court ruling that prohibits the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Army, and the Police from engaging in the elections, which he argued invalidates any results that may emerge.
He pointed out that despite the presence of campaign materials, the elections are unlikely to proceed as planned. Okocha, who has the backing of the National Working Committee, the presidency, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, emphasized various court decisions that bolster his group’s standing in Rivers State.

He praised Wike for reinforcing the party’s position and noted that court rulings affirm the legitimacy of 27 lawmakers, asserting they did not fulfill the legal criteria for defection to another party.
