Reports from Maiduguri in Borno state is saying Boko Haram fighters have allegedly attacked military bases in Wajirko in Damboa local government are and Wulgo in Gamboru Ngala local government area of Borno State.
The repor added that unspecified number of soldiers have killed in the attack.
A source within the military confided to Daily Trust that a convoy carrying the new Brigade Commander of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ in Damboa hit landmines planted by the terrorists.
“The commander and several soldiers sustained injuries, while some terrorists were killed,” he added.
The attack is seen as a strategic plan to halt the plan by the government to reopen the 185km Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road, which has been closed due to security threats.
Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South in the Nigerian Senate has confirmed the incident.
He condemned what he described as a gradual resurgence of attacks, calling for advanced military strategies, including drones, to tackle insurgency.
Efforts to reach the police for comments were unsuccessful.
