Former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has reacted to the ongoing nationwide protests against bad governance, economic hardship, and hunger in Nigeria.
In a tweet on Friday night, he offered a prayer for peace, quoting a verse from the Quran: “FRIDAY PRAYER: ‘My Lord, make this (Nigeria) a land of peace.’ – Holy Quran – Surah Al-Baqarah (2:126).”
The protests, which began on Thursday, saw Nigerians taking to the streets to express their frustration with soaring inflation, high food prices, and economic challenges exacerbated by current government policies and reforms.

While the protests started peacefully, they have turned violent in several cities, leading to clashes between police and protesters.
Reports indicate that at least 17 people have been killed in various states, including Abuja, Kano, Niger, Borno, Kaduna, and Jigawa.
One person was shot dead in both Abuja and Kano, two were killed in Jigawa, six in Niger, four in Borno, and three in Kaduna.
On Friday, police dispersed protesters with tear gas, resulting in many injuries.
The situation remains tense as the country grapples with the social and economic challenges fueling the unrest.
