Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been bestowed with the prestigious title of ‘Tafidan Jega’ by the Jega Emirate Council of Kebbi State.
This honour comes on the heels of Bawa’s recent release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Bawa, who assumed office as the fourth executive chairman of the EFCC in February 2021, faced a tumultuous period when he was arrested and detained by the DSS in June 2023, shortly after the election and inauguration of President Bola Tinubu.
After spending over 100 days in detention, he was released on October 25, 2023.
In a double celebration for the Bawa family, Abdulrasheed’s uncle, Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya Bawa, also received the title of ‘Cigari Jega’.
Expressing gratitude for the honor, Abdulrasheed Bawa assured the Emir of Jega, Alhaji Muhammadu Arzika, of his family’s unwavering loyalty and respect.
During the ceremony, the monarch emphasized the importance of upholding traditional values while executing duties for the benefit of the Emirate Council.
As the Tafidan Jega, Bawa is tasked with overseeing the timely completion of developmental projects within the Emirate to positively impact the lives of its people.
