The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state.
This plea follows the political crisis that has ensued since Siminalayi Fubara was sworn in as the Governor.
During a press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Wednesday, Chief Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Rivers, stated,
“Rivers State is at war. The individuals responsible for the ongoing violence, which has resulted in loss of life, are known. The Governor and the police are helpless. Therefore, the APC in Rivers State is calling for a state of emergency to address the mayhem and unrest in the state. I urge the federal government to act swiftly.”
This call from the APC comes shortly after Governor Fubara inaugurated newly appointed caretaker chairmen for the 23 local government areas of the state.
The appointment of the caretaker chairmen occurred a day after the list was submitted to the state House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Jumbo.
