Mrs. Esther Amali, a retired chief nurse, and Mercy Mwuese Akuhe, her housemaid, were allegedly murdered in their home on Naka Road in Makurdi, Benue State’s capital.
According to eyewitnesses, the event took place on Sunday evening at the deceased nurse’s home behind Deeper Life Church at Federal Low-cost Estate on Naka Road in Makurdi.
Some people also said that the late Mrs. Amali, who resigned recently from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Makurdi as chief nurse, drew them to the spot.
They claimed to have heard the deceased woman yell the names of her killer and her housemaid as she begged him to spare them.
According to witnesses, by the time help arrived for the victims, the attacker, Ibrahim, whom the late nurse apparently recognised as a neighbour, had fled the scene, leaving the two in a pool of blood and without injuring the housemaid’s five-month-old infant.
Residents told journalists that the suspected killer entered the deceased’s home at 4:20pm on Sunday and attacked the housemaid, who was alone at home doing household duties.
The Daily Trust learned that the housemaid accused an alleged killer’s buddy, Ibrahim, who is considered to be a cultist, of being responsible for her pregnancy and the father of her kid, an assertion that Ibrahim was supposed to have warned her against multiple times.
