Former President Goodluck Jonathan asserts that he does not owe anyone apologies for endorsing the re-election of Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, in the off-cycle governorship race held on November 11 in the state.
Jonathan justified his endorsement of Governor Diri by highlighting the fact that he enjoyed widespread support from the majority of the Bayelsa populace, making it the appropriate course of action.
Daniel Alabrah, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Diri, stated on Wednesday that the former president made this comment when Governor Diri led a prominent group from the state government to visit the former president in Yenagoa, the state capital, during the yuletide season.
“I stand by my actions during the governorship election and I have no apologies to offer. I am aware of the commendable efforts made by the governor and his team, particularly in maintaining peace and stability in the state.” I grew quite concerned at one point.I have not explicitly stated that others performed poorly.
Furthermore, I served as a governor for a duration of little less than one and a half years, during which I had several difficulties. “Since Diri assumed office, there has been a noticeable decline in the unruly behaviour of cult organisations, particularly in Yenagoa.”
In order to attract investors, it is imperative that we prioritise addressing the issue of security before proceeding further. The former president was cited as saying that he observed the governor and his team possess a clear vision, and he believed they should be encouraged to pursue another four-year term.
Governor Diri expressed gratitude to the former president for his support and endorsement, which played a significant role in the Peoples Democratic Party’s triumph in the election.
Diri stated that the value of your endorsement of a current governor exceeded billions of naira. With the acquisition of such endorsement, we felt certain in our imminent triumph. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the significant contribution that has brought about a state of stability.
