Wigwe University, founded by the late former Access Holdings CEO, Herbert Wigwe, is gearing up to commence its academic journey.
Despite the tragic demise of Wigwe and his family earlier this year, the institution stands as a testament to his vision for education.
Situated in Isiokpo, Rivers State, the university boasts four major colleges, promising a diverse array of programs ranging from Management and Social Sciences to Engineering.
However, prospective students are met with staggering tuition fees, making Wigwe University the most expensive in the country.
According to the institution’s website, fees vary across colleges, with the cheapest program, Arts, costing N9.6 million.
Conversely, students enrolled in Engineering, Management and Social Sciences, and Science and Computing colleges face a hefty fee of ₦11,998,800 each. These charges encompass various educational essentials, including tuition, books, and health insurance.
Furthermore, accommodation options add to the financial burden, ranging from a luxurious single-bedroom apartment at ₦1,000,000 per month to more affordable options.
Criticism has arisen regarding the institution’s decision to charge fees in dollars.
While domestic students will pay in naira, international students can opt for dollar payments, a move defended by the university as a means to foster diversity and attract global talent.
