The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is evaluating its mobilization efforts across different regions in preparation for a nationwide strike.
The union has issued a three-week ultimatum to the Federal Government concerning several unresolved issues.
Key grievances include outstanding demands related to service conditions outlined in the FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Understanding of 2012/2013 and the 2017 Memorandum of Action.
These issues encompass the illegal dissolution of Governing Councils in Federal and State Universities, the release of withheld salaries spanning three and a half months, and other concerns such as the payment of Earned Academic Allowances and the adoption of UTAS in place of IPPIS.
The Federal Government had recently initiated plans to pay lecturers in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education via the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS).
A member of ASUU’s National Executive Council, speaking anonymously in Abuja, expressed disappointment with the government’s handling of the situation, stating, “We have observed for too long and are dismayed by the government’s neglect.
Following the mobilization, the NEC will convene to assess our actions and determine the next course of action.”
