The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reportedly appointed Anugbum Onuoha, a cousin to the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
Onuoha was also a Special Adviser on Lands to Wike while he was Governor of Rivers State.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced strong concerns regarding the appointments.
According to the PDP, the REC previously served under Wike in Rivers State, raising fears that his role in the forthcoming election might not ensure fairness.
Similarly, the party criticized the appointment of the Commissioner of Police, who, they allege, has also been closely associated with Wike.
The PDP is concerned that these officials could compromise the electoral process in Edo, with the party describing the situation as a threat to the integrity of the elections.
The party also pointed out that in the weeks leading up to the election, the police have been targeting PDP members, with several arrests and detentions being reported.

The PDP is resolute in its opposition, calling for transparency and fairness while condemning what they see as a potential misuse of power to influence the electoral outcome.
