Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has urged for the use of innovative technologies to address insecurity in the state and the Northern region as a whole.
Governor Lawal made the call at a meeting with Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, on Friday in Washington, according to a statement released yesterday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.
According to Idris, the conference was attended by governors from Zamfara, Benue, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Niger.
Deputy UN Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed congratulated the governors for their efforts to find a long-term solution to the region’s difficulties.
Lawal explained the Zamfara situation to the Deputy Secretary-General, emphasising the critical role that technology can play in improving security and the need for a coordinated effort to harness the power of technology, such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI), biometric identification systems, and surveillance cameras.
